U.S. Army going green with fuel-efficient armored-car

The FED Bravo [Fuel Efficient ground vehicle Demonstrator] is a diesel hybrid that is in testing and looking to be added to the motor pool.

Specs:

  • 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 [268hp]
  • Electric motor [powers front wheels]
  • 8.2 mpg - City
  • 14.2 mpg - Highway
  • 16,760 lbs.
  • 5 mile range on pure EV mode.
  • 24 gallon fuel tank.


I must not have been aware at how bad the mileage of the Humvee is because they say that this thing nearly doubles the range of it. Whoa.
